‘Wasted Effort and Time’: Frozen Exams Leave Shops in Limbo
Compliance teams in the middle of Securities and Exchange Commission examinations have been left in limbo as the government shutdown stretches on — and the longer the shutdown lasts, the harder it will be for examiners to pick up where they left off, compliance consultants say.
The government has been shut down for four weeks. During that time, the SEC has paused all ongoing regulatory exams until after the shutdown ends, compliance professionals said.
“Even if the shutdown ends tomorrow, it’ll be January before things run normally again,” said Lori Weston, head of compliance at STP Investment Services.
