60% of Allocators Willing to Vet First-Time Hedge Funds
New hedge fund managers have a wider field of play to secure capital as more investors across the market are signaling willingness to include emerging managers as part of alternatives portfolios, according to new research.
More than half of allocators surveyed by the Alternative Investment Management Association and Marex said they are willing to consider investing in hedge funds with a year or less of operations, allowing fresh-faced managers to rely less on capital from their friends and family to get off the ground.
The findings mark a significant positive shift for emerging managers, as securing early allocations remains one of their primary challenges.
In AIMA’s latest research, 58% of allocators surveyed said they are willing to consider investing with managers with flagship hedge funds with a track record of a year or less. That compared with just 48% in 2024, the last time the trade group and Marex conducted the survey.
